Both Remote Keyless Entry Transmitters Inoperative

  1. Resyncronize Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters. See RESYNCRONIZING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. If RKE transmitters operate, system is okay. If transmitters do not operate after resyncronization, go to next step.
  2. Check RKE transmitter batteries. If okay, go to next step. If batteries are bad, replace batteries. Repeat step 1). If batteries are okay, go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool to Diagnostic Line Connector (DLC), located beneath Instrument Panel (I/P). Select Remote Function Actuator (RFA). If RFA module does not communicate with scan tool, go to next step. If scan tool can establish communications with RFA module, go to step 7).
  4. Check I/P No. 1 fuse (10-amp) of right rear PDC, located under left side of rear passenger seat. If fuse is open, locate and repair short in Orange wire. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RFA module connector. RFA module is located under rear shelf, in trunk compartment. Using a test light connected to ground, check for power at RFA connector terminal E16 (Orange wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, locate and repair open in Orange wire between I/P No. 1 fuse (10-amp) of right rear PDC and RFA connector.
  6. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, check for ground at RFA connector terminal F16 (Black wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to step 8). If test light does not illuminate, locate and repair open in Black wire.
  7. Using scan tool RFA data list function, select KEY FOB INFO. Press each button of a RKE transmitter, then each button of second RKE transmitter. Using scan tool, module receives signals from each transmitter. If transmitter signals are received, check for poor terminal contacts of RFA module connector. Repair as necessary. If connector is okay, replace RFA module. If transmitter signal is not received, replace RKE transmitter(s).
