Section 63 (Keyless Entry System - Passive): Description
The Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) system is used on Lumina Van cargo vans used for commercial fleet use. PKE system will lock all doors, arm vehicle alarm system and disable starter simply by walking away from the vehicle with the remote transmitter. No buttons need to be pressed or alarm system needs to be armed.
System consists of a remote transmitter, keyless entry control module, universal theft deterrent control module, shock sensor, programming switch/diagnostic light assembly and antennas in each door.
Liftgate will not unlock when power door lock switches are used during a forced entry. This is used for commercial use when an interior partition is used to separate cargo area. Only vehicle key and remote transmitter can be used to unlock liftgate. Remote transmitter has a "sleep" mode built into it. Whenever transmitter is motionless for 20 seconds, transmitter will stop sending signal. A thunking noise may be heard after transmitter is first moved after being idle. This is normal action of power door locks being unlocked and a signal that transmitter is activated.
