Tachometer Test

  1. Disconnect Electronic Ignition (EI) module connector. Plug Instrument Panel Tester (J 33431) into a wall outlet. Connect Harness Adapter (J 33431-10) to instrument panel tester. Connect adapter Black lead to ground and connect Red lead to connector C2, terminal "B" (White wire).
  2. Set tester to 54 MPH, 60 Hz, and power switch to ON position. Turn ignition on. If tachometer shows about 900 RPM, check EI module connector for good terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace EI module.
  3. If tachometer does not operate, check White wire for an open or short circuit to ground. Check all connectors for good terminal contact. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace instrument cluster.
