Pass-Key II System Verification

  1. Check if PASS-Key II detects use of an incorrect key by turning engine off. Disconnect 48-pin connector at base of steering column. Connect Interrogator (J 35828) to 48-pin connector. Set key code on interrogator to an incorrect key code. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle does not start, go to next step. If vehicle starts, replace PASS-Key II decoder module.
  2. During lockout period (about 3 minutes), turn ignition off. Disconnect interrogator and reconnect 48-pin connector. Attempt to start vehicle. If engine does not crank, go to next step. If engine does crank, replace PASS-Key II decoder module.
  3. Turn ignition off. Wait at least 3 minutes until end of lockout period and attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle starts, problem is intermittent. If vehicle does not start, PASS-Key II system is okay.
