Oil Level Indicator Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Buick Park Avenue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If CHECK OIL LEVEL indicator illuminates continuously when oil level is okay, check indicator lead for a short to ground. If wire is okay, replace oil level module.
  2. If CHECK OIL LEVEL indicator does not illuminate, disconnect 10-pin oil level module connector. Using a voltmeter, check for battery voltage between ground and terminals No. 6, 9 and 10. See Figure . If battery voltage is not present at any terminal, check appropriate wiring and bulb.
  3. If battery voltage is present at all terminals, connect jumper wire between terminals No. 5 and 6. If indicator illuminates, proceed to LOW OIL LEVEL SENSOR INPUT TEST. If indicator does not illuminate, check for open in wiring to ground.
