Code A091 - Open Brake SW Contacts (Deceleration Detection): Notes

This test is used to detect an open brake switch in non-ABS mode. When brake pedal is applied, brake switch closes and a voltage signal is sent to EBCM. The EBCM looks for this signal to know when brake pedal has been applied. The EBCM cannot activate ABS without this signal.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. This step determines if brake switch signal is being received by EBCM.
  2. This step indicates if an open circuit exists in brake switch or brake lamp circuit.
  3. This test isolates open circuit to either brake switch input circuit or EBCM.
