Code 32, EGR System Error: Notes
A properly operating EGR will directly affect air/fuel mixture requirements of engine. Because exhaust gas introduced into airflow is an inert gas (contains little or no oxygen), less fuel is required to maintain a correct air/fuel mixture. If EGR system were to become inoperative, inert exhaust gas would be replaced with oxygen and air/fuel mixture would become leaner. This would be reflected in an increased block learn value.
Engine control system operates within 2 block learn cells: a closed throttle cell and an open throttle cell. Block learn value of these 2 cells should be close to same. Open throttle cell is affected by operation of a functional EGR system. If EGR system malfunctions, open throttle cell block learn would increase but closed throttle cell block learn would remain unchanged. When change becomes too great, ECM will set a Code 32.
