Steering Column Jacket Assembly

  1. Check capsules on steering column bracket assembly. Capsules should be within 1.59 mm from bottom of slots (View "A" Fig. 5). If capsules are not within specifications, bracket should be replaced if bracket is bolted to jacket assembly. If bracket is welded to jacket assembly, jacket assembly must be replaced.
  2. Check contact surface "A" on capsules (View B). Bolt head must not contact surface or shear load would be increased. If contact is made, replace bracket assembly or jacket assembly.
  3. Check for jacket assembly collapse by measuring the distance from lower edge of upper jacket to a defined point on lower jacket. See illustrations A through E. If measured dimensions are not within specifications, a new jacket must be installed.
