Flow Rate Test

  1. Connect Power Steering Analyzer (J-25233-A) into system. Open analyzer valve fully. Run engine until fluid reaches normal operating temperature. Check fluid level, adding fluid as necessary. Record pressure and flow.
  2. Close valve partially until pressure builds to 700 psi (49.2 kg/cm2 ) and record flow. Subtract flow from that measured in step 1). If flow drops more than one gal./minute (3.8L/minute), replace ring, rotor and vanes in pump.
  3. Increase engine speed to 1500 RPM and read flow. Subtract flow from that measured in step 1). If flow varies more than one gal./minute, remove and clean flow control valve.
  4. Turn steering wheel all the way to left and right. Flow should drop to less than one gal./minute (3.8L/minute) at each stop. If flow is within specifications, check steering gear for leakage.
