Axle Shafts - Front: Description
Axle shafts transfer power from transaxle to drive wheels. Axle shafts have inner and outer constant velocity (CV) joints. Inner CV joints can slide in and out. Axle shafts, except left inner on automatic transaxles, use a male splined end and interlock with transaxle gears by a circlip.
Left inner axle shaft on automatic transaxle models use a female splined end and interlocks with protruding stub shaft. Cavalier and Sunbird, "J" body models, use an intermediate shaft to connect to transaxle. Some models use dampers on the right side axle shafts. See Fig 1 and Figure .
