Chart 2, Compressor Won't Engage (TORONADO)

The compressor clutch coil is supplied voltage from the 10-amp A/C fuse through a relay, which is energized by the power module when signaled by the ECM.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. This step checks to see that the low side temperature sensor is responding properly.
  2. This step checks to see if the fault is in the control to the relay or the control to the clutch.
  3. This step checks to see if the fault is in the feed to the relay or the ground (control) of the relay.
  4. This step checks to see if the fault is the control of the relay or the relay itself.
  5. This step checks to see if the fault is due to an open circuit No. 204 or control of circuit No. 204 (power module circuits).
  6. This step checks to see if the fault is due to the power module or control of the power module.
  7. This step checks to see if the fault in control of the power module is due to an open circuit No. 762 or a short in the circuit, including the ECM.
  8. This step checks to see if the fault is due to an open feed circuit No. 50C to the relay or feed to the clutch.
  9. This step checks to see if the fault is due to the clutch or the clutch power and ground circuits.
