Hydraulic Unit
CAUTION:
Before servicing any component which contains high pressure, it is mandatory that hydraulic pressure in the system be discharged. With ignition off, pump brake pedal a MINIMUM of 20 times using full pedal strokes. When a definite increase in pedal effort is felt, pump pedal 2 more times.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Depressurize brake system. Unplug all electrical connectors from hydraulic unit. Remove pump bolt. Move hydraulic unit aside to gain access to brake pipes. Disconnect brake lines. DO NOT allow brake fluid to come in contact with any electrical connectors.
- From inside passenger compartment, disconnect hydraulic booster push rod from brake pedal. Push dust boot forward past hex on push rod. Separate push rod halves by unthreading the 2 pieces. Remove 2 bolts attaching unit to push rod bracket.
- Remove unit. Front half of push rod will remain in hydraulic unit. See Figure. To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed brake system after installation of hydraulic unit. See appropriate BRAKE BLEEDING in this article.
