Test 2, Windshield Washer Won't Shut Off

  1. With ignition on, remove connector from terminals 4, 5 and 6. Connect test light to connector terminals 4 and 5. If test light is on, check for grounded wire between washer connector and wiper switch or a defective wiper switch. If test light is off, go to test step 2).
  2. Remove washer pump cover. Reconnect wiring to wiper terminals to re-establish condition, and check position of armature leg. If armature leg is in proper position, check the following: dog spring engages ratchet gear teeth, wear on ratchet gear spring tooth, and ratchet pawl spring missing or not properly connected. Refer to Fig 1 .
  3. If ratchet pawl is not in proper position, check for loose pole piece on washer relay and burr on end of armature leg.
