Work Procedure

Always adjust the neutral position of steering angle sensor before driving when the following operation is performed.

Procedure Adjust The Neutral Position Of Steering Angle Sensor
Removing/ installing ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) -
Replacing ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) -
Removing/installing steering angle sensor x
Replacing steering angle sensor x
Removing/installing steering components x
Replacing steering components x
Removing/installing front suspension components x
Replacing front suspension components x
Removing/installing tire -
Replacing tire -
Tire rotation -
Adjusting front wheel alignment. x
CAUTION:

Always use CONSULT when adjusting the neutral position of steering angle sensor. (It cannot be adjusted other than with CONSULT.)

  1. CHECK THE VEHICLE STATUS (1) 

    Stop vehicle with front wheels in the straight-ahead position. Does the vehicle stay in the straight-ahead position?

    YES>>

    GO TO 2.

    NO>>

    Steer the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. Stop the vehicle.

  2. ADJUST NEUTRAL POSITION OF STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 

    SYMBOL With CONSULT

    1. Power switch ON.
      CAUTION:

      Never start set the vehicle to READY.

    2. Select "ABS", "Work support" and "Steering angle sensor adjustment" in this order.
    3. Select "START".
      CAUTION:

      Never touch steering wheel while adjusting steering angle sensor.

    4. After approximately 10 seconds, select "END".
    5. Power switch OFF, and then turn it ON again.
      CAUTION:

      Be sure to perform the operation above.

    >>

    GO TO 3.

  3. CHECK DATA MONITOR (1) 

    SYMBOL With CONSULT

    1. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved. Stop when it is pointing straight ahead.
    2. Select "ABS", "Data monitor", and "Steering angle" in the order. Check that the signal is within the specified value. Refer to Diagnosis Description .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES>>

    GO TO 10.

    NO>>

    GO TO 4.

  4. CHECK STEERING COMPONENT PARTS 

    Check the installation condition of steering component parts. Refer to STEERING WHEEL : Periodic Maintenance Operation . Is the inspection result normal?

    YES>>

    GO TO 5.

    NO>>

    Repair or replace error-detected parts. GO TO 5.

  5. CHECK FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENT PARTS 

    Check the installation condition of front suspension component parts. Refer to FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY : Periodic Maintenance Operation . Is the inspection result normal?

    YES>>

    GO TO 6.

    NO>>

    Repair or replace error-detected parts. GO TO 6.

  6. CHECK FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT 

    Check the front wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT : Inspection . Is the inspection result normal?

    YES>>

    GO TO 7.

    NO>>

    Adjust the front wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT : Adjustment . GO TO 7.

  7. CHECK THE VEHICLE STATUS (2) 

    Stop vehicle with front wheels in the straight-ahead position. Does the vehicle stay in the straight-ahead position?

    YES>>

    GO TO 8.

    NO>>

    Steer the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. GO TO 8.

  8. CHECK DATA MONITOR (2) 

    SYMBOL With CONSULT

    1. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved. Stop when it is pointing straight ahead.
    2. Select "ABS", "Data monitor", and "Steering angle" in the order. Check that the signal is within the specified value. Refer to Diagnosis Description .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES>>

    GO TO 10.

    NO>>

    GO TO 9.

  9. CHECK DATA MONITOR (3) 

    SYMBOL With CONSULT

    1. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved.
      CAUTION:
      • Drive the vehicle at approximately 30 km/h (19 MPH) or more for 300 m (985 ft) or more.
      • Never use tester
    2. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved. Stop when it is pointing straight ahead.
    3. Select "ABS", "Data monitor", and "Steering angle" in the order. Check that the signal is within the specified value. Refer to Diagnosis Description .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES>>

    GO TO 10.

    NO>>

    GO TO 1.

  10. ERASE SELF-DIAGNOSIS MEMORY 

    SYMBOL With CONSULT

    1. Record or print self-diagnosis results and freeze frame data (FFD).
    2. Erase self-diagnosis result for "ABS".

    Are the memories erased?

    YES>>

    End of work.

    NO>>

    Check the DTC. Refer to DTC Index .

  11. EPS SYSTEM LEARNING 
    1. Pull the parking brake switch.
      NOTE: SYMBOL Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned ON.
    2. Power switch OFF.
    3. Get out of the vehicle and close all doors.
    4. Wait 65 seconds.
      NOTE: SYMBOL
      • Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned OFF.
      • If the rear brake calipers are hot, wait up to an hour until parking brake indicator light on the switch turns OFF. Once indicator light on the switch turns OFF, move to next step.
    5. Set the vehicle to READY.
      CAUTION:

      Never drive the vehicle.
