Disassembly and Assembly: Assembly
CAUTION:
Do not damage the piston rod when installing components to the front coil spring and strut.
- Identify the lower end of the spring.NOTE: Identification paint is 1.75 turns from the lower end of the spring.
- Compress front coil spring using a suitable tool.WARNING: Make sure that the pawls of the suitable tool are firmly hooked on the coil spring. The suitable tool must be tightened alternately so as to not tilt the coil spring.
- Align the lower end of the front coil spring (1) with spring lower seat (2) as shown in illustration.
Maximum gap (A)
: 5 mm (0.2 in)
- Apply suitable non-silicone tire lubricant to the surface (A) of the bound bumper (2) that will contact the spring upper seat (1).
- Insert bound bumper into spring upper seat.
- If strut mount bearing (1) was removed, install strut mount bearing to spring upper seat (2).CAUTION:
- If strut mount bearing was removed from spring upper seat, do not reuse strut mount bearing.
NOTE: The piston rod lock nut will press the strut mount bearing to the proper position in a later step.Maximum gap (A) between strut mount bearing and spring upper seat
: 3.2 mm (0.126 in)
- Install strut mount bearing, spring upper seat, and bound bumper as a set.CAUTION: Do not apply oil, such as grease, when installing the strut mount bearing.
- Secure piston rod tip so that piston rod does not turn, then install piston rod lock nut and tighten to the specified torque.CAUTION: Do not reuse piston rod lock nut.
- Gradually release the suitable tool, and remove the suitable tool from the front coil spring.CAUTION: Release the suitable tool while making sure the position of the suitable tool on the coil spring does not move.
- Install rebound insulator stopper.
- Remove the Tool (A) from the vise.
Tool number (A)
: ST35652000 (--)
- Remove Tool (A) from the front coil spring and strut.
- After replacing the strut, always follow the disposal procedure to discard the old strut. Refer to Disposal .
