Disassembly and Assembly: Assembly
- Apply grease (Autolex A or Dow Corning 111) or equivalent to inner socket and turn pinion fully to retract inner socket into steering gear housing.CAUTION: Make sure there are no contaminants in the grease, on the inner socket, or inside the steering gear housing.
- Install large end (1) of boot (2) to steering gear housing.
- Install small end (3) of boot (2) to inner socket boot groove.
- Install outer boot clamp to boot small end.
- Install inner boot clamp to boot large end using suitable tool.CAUTION: Install inner boot clamp (1) securely to boot groove, and crimp it so as to have clearance of 3 mm (0.12 in) or less as shown.
- Install outer socket.
- Adjust inner socket to standard length (L), and then tighten lock nut to the specified torque. Check length again after tightening lock nut.

- Check wheel alignment. Refer to Inspection
.CAUTION: When tightening outer socket lock nut (1), be sure to hold outer socket (2) using a suitable tool to prevent ball joint from contacting knuckle.NOTE: The length achieved after adjusting wheel alignment is not necessarily the above value.
