Using Consult Tester

- Turn ignition off. Connect CONSULT tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on. Touch START button on CONSULT tester. Touch AIRBAG. Touch SELF-DIAG MODE KEY. Touch SELF-DIAG (CURRENT). If malfunction is indicated by AIR BAG warning light but no codes are displayed on CONSULT tester, diagnosis results in SELF DIAG (PAST) have not been erased or an intermittent condition is present. Go to next step. If current malfunctions are indicated, go to step 3 .
- Erase codes stored in diagnosis sensor unit by touching ERASE on SELF DIAG (CURRENT) screen. If battery voltage is below 9 volts, recharge battery. If battery voltage is above 9 volts, touch SELF-DIAG (PAST). If no malfunction is displayed, touch BACK. Touch TROUBLE DIAG RECORD. Malfunctioning fault code will be displayed on CONSULT tester. See FAULT MESSAGES . Turn off CONSULT tester. Turn ignition off and disconnect CONSULT tester. Disconnect negative battery cable. After repair is completed, codes must be cleared. See CLEARING CODES .
- If any problems are present, message will be displayed in SELF-DIAG (CURRENT) mode. Touch PRINT. See FAULT MESSAGES . Press BACK button until SELECT SYSTEM appears. Turn off CONSULT tester. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CONSULT tester from DLC. Disconnect negative battery cable. After repair is completed, codes must be cleared. See CLEARING CODES .
