Removal And Installation: Removal: Preparation

- Drain engine coolant from radiator drain plug.
- Partially drain A/T fluid. See DRAINING & REFILLING in SERVICING - TITAN article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - TITAN article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Remove the engine hood.
- Remove the cowl extension. COWL TOP in EXTERIOR/INTERIOR - TITAN article in ACCESSORIES & BODY, CAB.
- Remove engine room cover ENGINE ROOM COVER .
- Remove the air duct and air cleaner case assembly AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT .
- Disconnect vacuum hose between vehicle and engine and set it aside.
- Remove the radiator assembly and hoses. Refer to THERMOSTAT AND WATER PIPING in ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM - TITAN article.
- Remove the drive belts. Refer to DRIVE BELTS .
- Remove the fan blade. refer to ENGINE COOLING FAN in ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM - TITAN article.
- Disconnect the engine room harness from the fuse box and set it aside for easier work.
- Disconnect the ECM.
- Disconnect the engine room harness from the engine side and set it aside for easier work.
- Disconnect the engine harness grounds.
- Disconnect the reservoir tank for power steering from engine and move it aside for easier work.
- Disconnect power steering oil pump from engine. Move it from its location and secure with a rope for easier work. Refer to POWER STEERING OIL PUMP in POWER STEERING article.
- Remove the A/C compressor bolts and set aside. See REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION FOR COMPRESSOR in MANUAL HVAC SYSTEM - TITAN article.
- Disconnect brake booster vacuum line.
- Disconnect EVAP line.
- Disconnect the fuel hose at the engine side connection. Refer to FUEL INJECTOR AND FUEL TUBE .
- Disconnect the heater hoses at cowl, and install plugs to avoid leakage of engine coolant.
- Remove the A/T oil level indicator and indicator tube upper bolts.
- Remove front final drive assembly (4x4 only). See REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove exhaust manifolds. See EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THREE WAY CATALYST .
- Install engine slingers into left bank cylinder head and right bank cylinder head.
- Engine slinger torque: 45.0 N.m (4.6 kg-m, 33 ft-lb)
- Remove transmission. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Lift with hoist and secure the engine in position.
- Remove engine assembly from vehicle, avoiding interference with vehicle body.CAUTION:
- Before and during this lifting, always check if any harnesses are left connected.
- Remove alternator. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in GENERATORS & REGULATORS - TITAN article in ELECTRICAL.
- Remove engine mounting insulator and bracket with power tool.
