Rear Axle Carrier: Installation

HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
- A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (See SPECIFIED TORQUE FOR STANDARD BOLTS ).
- INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Install the hub and bearing assembly and back plate assembly to the rear axle carrier with the 4 bolts and nut.
Torque: 56 N.m (571 kgf.cm, 41 ft.lbf) for bolt
140 N.m (1,428 kgf.cm, 103 ft.lbf) for nut
- Install the hub and bearing assembly and back plate assembly to the rear axle carrier with the 4 bolts and nut.
- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
- Temporarily tighten the upper control arm with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and temporarily install the bolt.
- Temporarily tighten the upper control arm with the bolt and nut.
- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
- Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm (ball joint side) with the bolt and nut.
HINT:
Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and temporarily install the bolt.
- Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm (ball joint side) with the bolt and nut.
- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
- Temporarily tighten the lower control arm with the nut.
- INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
- Install the No. 3 parking brake cable to the backing plate with the bolt.
Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf)
- Install the No. 3 parking brake cable to the backing plate with the bolt.
- APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
- Apply high temperature grease (See REASSEMBLY ).
- INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
- Install the parking brake shoe lever (See REASSEMBLY ).
- INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
- Install the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly (See REASSEMBLY ).
- INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
- Install the parking braking brake shoe adjusting screw set (See REASSEMBLY ).
- INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT
- Install the parking brake shoe strut (See REASSEMBLY ).
- CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
- Check the parking brake installation (See REASSEMBLY ).
- INSPECT AXLE HUB BEARING BACKLASH
- Inspect the axle hub bearing backlash (see ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).
- INSPECT AXLE HUB BEARING DEVIATION
- Inspect the axle hub bearing deviation (see ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).
- INSTALL REAR DISC
- ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
- Adjust the parking brake shoe clearance (See INSTALLATION ).
- INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
- Install the rear disc brake caliper with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 47 N.m (475 kgf.cm, 34 ft.lbf)
- Install the rear disc brake caliper with the 2 bolts.
- CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
- Connect the skid control sensor wire with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)
- Connect the connector.
HINT:
Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the sensor.
- Connect the skid control sensor wire with the bolt.
- INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf)
- STABILIZE SUSPENSION
- Stabilize the suspension (See REASSEMBLY ).
- FULLY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
- Fully tighten the bolt and nut.
Torque: 74 N.m (755 kgf.cm, 55 ft.lbf)
NOTE: When installing the bolt, hold the nut in place.
- Fully tighten the bolt and nut.
- FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
- Fully tighten the nut (ball joint side).
Torque: 105 N.m (1,071 kgf.cm, 77 ft.lbf)
- Install a new clip.NOTE: If the holes for the clip are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.
- Fully tighten the bolt and nut.
Torque: 74 N.m (755 kgf.cm, 55 ft.lbf)
NOTE: When installing the bolt, hold the nut in place. - Fully tighten the nut (ball joint side).
- FULLY TIGHTEN LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
- Fully tighten the nut.
Torque: 105 N.m (1,071 kgf.cm, 77 ft.lbf)
- Install a new cotter pin.NOTE: If the holes for the clip are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.
- Fully tighten the bolt (member side).
Torque: 115 N.m (1,173 kgf.cm, 85 ft.lbf)
NOTE: When installing the bolt, hold the nut in place.
- Fully tighten the nut.
- INSPECT AND ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL
- Inspect and adjust the parking brake lever travel (See ADJUSTMENT ).
- INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
- Inspect and adjust the rear wheel alignment (See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT ).
- CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
- Check the ABS speed sensor signal (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).
