Automatic Transaxle - Re5F22A: Disassembly: Disassembly
- Drain ATF through drain plug.
- Remove torque converter by transaxle case it firmly and turning while pulling straight out.
- Remove A/T fluid level gauge.
- Remove A/T fluid charging pipe.
- Remove O-ring from A/T fluid charging pipe.
- Remove air breather hose.
- Remove A/T fluid cooler tube.
- Remove turbine revolution sensor.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the turbine revolution sensor and transaxle case.
- Remove revolution sensor.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the revolution sensor and transaxle case.
- Remove nut and range lever.
- Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, pry off the lock washer.
- Loosen nut and remove lock washer.
- Remove washer plate.
- Remove PNP switch from transaxle case.BOLT SYMBOL SPECIFICATION

- Remove ATF cooler assembly, washer and spring washer.
- Remove O-rings from the ATF cooler assembly.NOTE: Do not reuse spring washer or O-rings.
- Remove side cover.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage side cover and transaxle case.NOTE: Do not reuse seal bolts
- Disconnect solenoid connectors.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage connector.
- Remove sensor clamp bolt.
- Remove sensor clamp and A/T fluid temperature sensor.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage A/T fluid temperature sensor.
- Remove suction cover bolts.
- Remove suction cover and suction cover gasket.
- Remove control valve assembly bolts from transaxle case.BOLT SYMBOL SPECIFICATION
Bolt symbol Length mm (in) Number of bolts A 55 (2.17) 2 B 50 (1.97) 2 C 16 (0.63) 2 - While holding control valve assembly, disconnect parking lock rod sub assembly from manual valve lever sub assembly and remove control valve assembly.NOTE: Shift position is "N".
- Remove governor apply gaskets.
- Remove terminal cord assembly.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage solenoid connectors and A/T fluid temperature sensor.
- Remove oil pump assembly bolts from transaxle case.
- Remove oil pump assembly using Tool.
Tool number ST33290001 (J-34286)
- Remove oil seal from oil pump assembly using suitable tool.CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch oil pump assembly.
- Remove one-way clutch outer race sub assembly.
- Remove thrust washer.
- Remove transaxle housing bolts from transaxle case.BOLT SYMBOL SPECIFICATION

- Remove transaxle housing with a soft hammer.
- Remove governor apply gasket.
- Remove seal ring.
- Remove tube clamp bolt and clamp.
- Remove differential gear lube apply tube using a suitable tool.CAUTION: Be careful not to bend or damage differential gear lube apply tube.
Be careful not to damage transaxle housing.
- Remove oil reservoir plate.
- Remove oil cleaner magnets from oil reservoir plate.
- Remove differential gear assembly.
- Remove oil strainer sub assembly.
- Remove oil reservoir plate.
- Remove tube clamp.
- Remove U/D brake apply tube sub assembly using suitable tool.CAUTION: Be careful not to bend or damage U/D brake apply tube sub assembly.
Be careful not to damage transaxle case.
- Disconnect manual detent spring sub assembly from manual valve lever sub assembly using a flat-bladed screwdriver or suitable tool.
- Remove manual valve lever sub assembly from parking lock rod sub assembly.
- Remove parking lock rod sub assembly.
- Remove bolts for manual detent spring sub assembly.BOLT SYMBOL SPECIFICATION

- Remove parking lock pawl shaft and torsion spring No.1.
- Remove parking lock pawl bracket and parking lock pawl.
- Remove parking lockpin sub assembly.
- Remove spring guide sleeve and torsion spring No.2.
- Remove manual valve oil seal using a flat-bladed screwdriver.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage transaxle case.
- Remove thrust needle roller bearing and thrust bearing race from U/D gear assembly.
- Remove U/D gear assembly.
- Remove seal rings from U/D gear assembly.
- Remove U/D clutch assembly.
- Remove anchor bolt.
- Remove U/D brake band assembly.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage transaxle case.
- Remove U/D RR planetary carrier assembly and thrust bearing races.
- Remove U/D RR planetary ring gear sub assembly.

- Remove snap ring using a snap ring pliers
- Remove U/D brake damper assembly.
- Remove O-rings from U/D brake damper assembly.
- Remove U/D brake piston assembly and compression spring.
- Remove O-ring from U/D brake piston assembly.

- Tap transaxle case cover with a soft hammer.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage transaxle case cover.
- Remove transaxle case cover.
- Remove governor apply gaskets from transaxle case.NOTE: Do not reuse gaskets
- Remove tube clamp bolt.
- Remove transaxle lube apply tube, using a flat-bladed screwdriver.CAUTION: Be careful not to bend or damage transaxle lube apply tube. Be careful not to damage transaxle case.
- Remove forward and direct clutch assembly.
- Remove thrust bearing race, thrust needle roller bearing and seal ring from forward and direct clutch assembly.NOTE: Do not reuse seal ring.
- Remove planetary sun gear sub assembly and thrust needle roller bearings.
- Measure the inner diameter of planetary sun gear sub assembly bushing, using suitable bore gauge.CAUTION: Measure at different places and take an average. If it is greater than the maximum, replace it with a new planetary sun gear sub assembly.
Standard: 22.200 - 22.226 mm (0.8740 - 0.8750 in)
Allowable limit: 22.276 (0.8770 in)

- Remove RR planetary ring gear assembly.
- Remove thrust needle roller bearing and thrust bearing race from RR planetary ring gear assembly.
- Remove planetary gear assembly.
- Remove thrust bearing race from planetary gear assembly.
- Measure the inner diameter of planetary gear assembly bushing, using suitable bore gauge.CAUTION: Measure at different places and take an average. If it is greater than the maximum, replace it with a new planetary gear assembly.
Standard :30.056 - 30.082 mm (1.1833 - 1.1843 in)
Allowable limit: 30.132 (1.1863 in)
- Remove thrust bearing.
- Remove snap ring using a flat-bladed screwdriver.
- Remove 1st and reverse brake flanges, 1st and reverse brake discs and 1st and reverse brake plates.
- INSPECTION
- Check that the sliding surface of discs are not worn and burnt. If necessary, replace them.
CAUTION: Replace new discs by soaking them at least 2 hours in A/T fluid. - INSPECTION
- Remove FR planetary ring gear assembly with one-way clutch No.2.
- Make sure that the FR planetary ring gear assembly should turn freely counterclockwise and should lock clockwise.
- Remove snap ring using a flat-bladed screwdriver.
- Remove return spring.
- While pushing the piston by hand, apply compressed air (4 Kg/cm2 ) into the oil passage of transaxle case as shown in the figure and remove 1st and reverse brake piston.
- Remove O-rings from 1st and reverse brake piston.NOTE: Do not reuse O-Rings.
- Remove thrust bearing and thrust bearing race from counter drive gear sub assembly.
- Remove snap ring using a suitable snap ring pliers.
- Remove counter drive gear sub assembly.
- Remove differential side oil seal from transaxle case and transaxle housing using suitable tool.CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch transaxle case and transaxle housing.

NOTE: Do not reuse oil seals - Remove outer race and adjust shim from transaxle case, using Tool
