Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Infiniti G35. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage. Damage to ECM transistor may result. Use engine ground.

For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit diagram, see Fig 4 . For ECM pin voltage reference values, see Fig 5 .

  1. If using CONSULT-II, go to next step. If using generic scan tool, go to step  3 .
  2. Turn ignition on. Select MAIN SW, RESUME/ACC SW, SET SW and CANCEL SW in DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT-II. Check each item indication under specified conditions. See Fig 1 . If problem is found, go to step  4 . If no problem is found, go to step  9 .

  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect combination switch harness connector M203. Check for continuity between engine ground and combination switch harness connector M203 terminal No. 15. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to power. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step  6 .
  5. Check the following:
    • Harness connectors F102 and F102.
    • Joint connector-3.
    • Combination switch (spiral cable).
    • Harness for open and short between ECM and combination switch.

    Repair as necessary.

  6. Disconnect ECM harness connector F101. Check for continuity between ECM harness connector F101 terminal No. 50 and combination switch harness connector M203 terminal No. 14. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step  8 .
  7. Check the following:
    • Harness connectors F102 and M72.
    • Combination switch (spiral cable).
    • Harness for open and short between ECM and combination switch.

    Repair as necessary.

  8. Disconnect combination switch (spiral cable). Measure resistance between combination switch (spiral cable) terminals No. 14 and 15 while pressing each switch. See Fig 3 . If any switch in ASCD steering switch is faulty, replace steering wheel. If no problem is found, go to next step.
