Frontier 2.4L

Move the gearshift lever from "P" position to "1" position. Shift detents should be felt in each position. If the detents cannot be felt or the pointer indicating the position is improperly aligned, the linkage needs adjustment.

  1. Place gearshift lever in "P" position.
  2. Loosen shift cable lock nut and place manual shaft in Park.
  3. Apply 4.4 lbs. of force to shift cable in the direction of the arrow shown in the illustration. See Fig 1 .

  4. Return shift cable .039 in. (1.0 mm) the opposite direction of the arrow.
  5. Tighten shift cable lock nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Move gearshift lever from "P" to "1" position. Ensure gearshift lever moves smoothly.
  7. Apply grease to contacting areas of levers and shift cable. Install any part removed. Ensure that the starter operates when the gearshift lever is placed in the "N" or "P" position. Ensure transmission is locked properly when the gearshift lever is placed in the "P" position.
