Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Check: Sentra

  1. Check for proper speedometer operation. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article for further diagnosis of speedometer and vehicle speed sensor circuit.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ASCD control unit harness connector. Turn ignition on. Raise and support vehicle. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 22 (Purple/Red wire) on ASCD control unit harness connector. Slowly turn drive wheels. If voltage fluctuates, vehicle speed sensor is okay. If voltage does not fluctuate, check for open or short in circuit between ASCD control unit and terminal No. 13 on combination meter (instrument cluster) harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary.
