Diagnostic Procedure

SYMPTOM 1: 

SYMPTOM 2: 

Ignition key cannot be removed when selector lever is set to "P" position. 

Ignition key can be removed when selector lever is set to any position except "P". 

  1. CHECK KEY INTERLOCK CABLE 

    Check key interlock cable for damage.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 2.
    2. NG: Repair key interlock cable. Refer to "Key Interlock Cable ".
  2. CHECK SELECTOR LEVER POSITION 

    Check selector lever position for damage.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 3.
    2. NG: Check selector lever. Refer to "ON-VEHICLE SERVICE - PNP Switch and MANUAL CONTROL LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT .
  3. CHECK POWER SOURCE 
    1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. (Do not start engine.)
    2. Check voltage between A/T device harness terminal 7 (G/W) and ground.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO  5.
    2. NG: GO TO 4.
  4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM 

    Check the following items:

    1. 7.5A fuse [No. 11, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
    2. Ignition switch (Refer to "POWER SUPPLY ROUTING ".)
    3. Harness for short or open between battery and stop lamp switch harness connector 3 (G/W)
    4. Harness for short or open between stop lamp switch harness connector 4 (G/W) and A/T device harness connector 7 (G/W)
    5. Diode
    6. Stop lamp switch
      1. Check continuity between connector terminals 3 and 4.

    Check stop lamp switch after adjusting brake pedal - refer to " STOPLIGHT SWITCH & AUTOMATIC SPEED CONTROL DEVICE SWITCH  ". 

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 5.
    2. NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
  5. CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
    2. Disconnect A/T device harness connector.
    3. Check continuity between A/T device harness connector terminal 6 (B) and ground. Refer to WIRING DIAGRAM - SHIFT - .

      Continuity should exist. 

      If OK, check harness for short to ground and short to power.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 6.
    2. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  6. CHECK PARK POSITION SWITCH 
    • Check continuity between A/T device harness connector B59 terminal 6 and park position switch harness connector M508 terminal 1.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 7.
    2. NG: Replace park position switch.
  7. CHECK SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID 
    • Check operation by applying battery voltage shift lock solenoid harness connector terminals 1 and 3.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 8.
    2. NG: Replace shift lock solenoid.
  8. CHECK SHIFT LOCK OPERATION 
    1. Reconnect shift lock harness connector.
    2. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. (Do not start engine.)
    3. Recheck shift lock operation.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: INSPECTION END 
    2. NG: GO TO 9.
  9. CHECK A/T DEVICE INSPECTION 
    1. Perform A/T device input/output signal inspection test.
    2. If NG, recheck harness connector connection.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: INSPECTION END 
    2. NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
