Vehicle Speed Sensor Check: 240SX

  1. If Nissan CONSULT scan tool is available, go to next step. If Nissan CONSULT scan tool is not available, go to step 4).
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select DATA MONITOR mode. Monitor VHCL SPEED SE parameter while road testing vehicle. If vehicle speed displayed on scan tool matches actual vehicle speed, vehicle speed sensor is okay. If displayed vehicle speed does not match actual vehicle speed, go to next step.
  3. Road test vehicle. If speedometer operates properly, check for open or short in circuit between terminal No. 7 at ASCD control unit and combination meter. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If speedometer does not operate properly, see INSTRUMENT PANELS article for further diagnosis of speedometer and vehicle speed sensor circuit.
  4. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect ASCD control unit harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 at ASCD control unit harness connector. See Figure . Slowly turn drive wheel. If voltage reading fluctuates, vehicle speed sensor is okay. If voltage reading does not fluctuate, go to step 3).
