Actuator/Pump Check

  1. Check vacuum hose between pump and actuator for kinks or leakage. Repair if necessary. If hose is okay, go to next step.
  2. Check actuator cable for rust, kinks and proper installation. Ensure actuator linkage is properly adjusted. See ACTUATOR CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS. Repair or adjust as necessary. If actuator cable is okay, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator. Using a hand held vacuum pump, apply vacuum to actuator. Actuator cable should pull throttle open. If vacuum decreases more than 10 percent after 10 seconds, replace actuator. If vacuum decreases less than 10 percent, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect vacuum hose and harness connector from vacuum pump. Connect vacuum gauge to pump. Using jumper wires, connect battery positive to pump connector terminal No. 1, and battery negative to pump connector terminals No. 2, 3 and 4. Replace vacuum pump if vacuum gauge does not indicate 10.4 in. Hg or greater.
