Tachometer Circuit Test

  1. Check Power Circuit  - Remove instrument cluster and leave harnesses connected. Check voltage between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 22 and ground. See Figure or Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check fusible links, ignition relay, ignition switch and ignition power circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Also see POWER DISTRIBUTION in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS  section.
  2. Check ECM Output  - Start and run engine. Check voltage between instrument cluster harness connector terminals No. 28 and 29. Voltage should increase and decrease in relation to engine speed. If voltage is as specified, replace tachometer. If voltage does not vary with engine speed, go to next step.
  3. Check Harness  - Check continuity of Blue/Orange wire between ECCS control module (located under left side of instrument panel) and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 29. Repair Blue/Orange wire if necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
