Radiator (Cooling) Fan Control Test

WARNING: Be careful not to overheat engine during radiator fan control test.
  1. A fault in radiator fan control circuit may set DTC P1900. To test system, see DTC P1900 diagnostic procedures in the TESTS W/CODES article. To test radiator fan, go to next step.
  2. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Set temperature lever to full cold position. Turn A/C switch on. Turn blower fan on. Run engine at idle with A/C on for several minutes. Ensure radiator fan operates at low speed.
  3. Turn ignition (engine) off. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. Connect a 150-ohm resistor to engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. Start engine and ensure radiator fan operates at high speed.
  4. If radiator fan operates as specified, cooling fan is functioning properly. If radiator fan does not operate as specified, go to RADIATOR FAN MOTOR TEST  and DTC P1900 diagnostic procedures in the TESTS W/CODES article.
