DTC 85/P1110 - Valve Timing Control (VTC)
- Check Power Supply
Turn ignition off. Disconnect VTC solenoid valve harness connector, located at top right side of engine. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between VTC solenoid valve connector terminal No. 2 (Brown wire) and ground. See Fig 1. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check 10-amp fuse and harness or connectors between 10-amp fuse and VTC solenoid valve. Repair as necessary.
- Check Output Signal Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM connector terminal No. 114 and VTC connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). See Fig 2. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
- Check Component
Apply battery voltage and ground to VTC solenoid valve terminals. Ensure inside plunger protrudes outside solenoid valve assembly. Replace solenoid valve as necessary. If valve is okay, go to next step. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check ECM pin terminals for damage or corrosion. Check all circuit connectors for clean, tight fit. If fault is still present, replace solenoid valve.
