Neutral Position Signal (A/T Control Unit) Test (Maxima VE30DE & Quest)
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect ECM harness connector for pushed-out, bent, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary. On Maxima VE30DE, check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 44 (Brown wire) and ground. On Quest, check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 35 (Green/Black wire) and ground. On all models, move shift lever through gears. Continuity should exist ONLY in Neutral and Park. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step. If continuity is as specified, system is functioning properly.
- Disconnect and inspect A/T control unit harness connector for pushed-out, bent, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary. On Maxima VE30DE, check continuity of Brown wire between ECM harness connector terminal No. 44 and A/T control unit harness connector terminal No. 44. On Quest, check continuity of Green/Black wire between ECM harness connector terminal No. 35 and A/T control unit harness connector terminal No. 13. On all models, continuity should exist.
- If continuity exists, check A/T control unit. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICE & REPAIR article. Also check inhibitor switch. On Maxima VE30DE, see INHIBITOR SWITCH TEST (MAXIMA VE30DE, PICKUP & 300ZX). On Quest, see INHIBITOR SWITCH TEST (ALTIMA, NX 2.0L, SENTRA 2.0L, QUEST & 240SX). On all models, if continuity does not exist, check harness and connectors for open. Repair as necessary.
