Electric Advance System
- Disconnect and plug vacuum hose at distributor. Disconnect throttle valve switch harness connector and connect lead between terminals 24 and 30 of connector. Start the engine from cold condition. Check spark timing when temperature is in the cold position.
- Stop engine and disconnect lead wire. Recheck timing with temperature in cold position. Make sure timing is the same as in step 1). Warm engine to the middle of range on temperature gauge. Spark timing should retard from former position.
- Stop engine and connect lead wire between terminals 24 and 30 of throttle valve switch harness connector. Check timing with engine temperature in the middle of range on temperature gauge. Spark timing should advance.
- If timing is different than listed above, check operation of coolant temperature switch. Switch should have continuity at temperatures below 68°F (20°C), and should have no continuity at temperatures above 104°F (40°C).
