Electric Power Steering (EPS): General Description: Notes

The electric power steering (EPS) has been adopted which improves the steering feel in all ranges from low to high speed, and enhances the vehicle stability during high speed driving. This steering system offers the following features:

• The steering gear is mounted on the front crossmember via the bushings with inner cylinders. These bushings are symmetrically arranged in order to suppress the difference in the steering feeling between left and right cornering.
• Improved fuel consumption by reduction of engine load, and weight saving by decrease of the number of parts have been achieved with the introduction of the electric power steering system.
• 3-spoke type steering wheel integrated with an SRS air bag has been adopted.
• Shock absorbing mechanism has been adopted with the steering column assembly.
• On vehicles with KOS, an electric steering lock is adopted.
• Leather steering wheel has been adopted for some vehicles as a standard equipment or an optional equipment.
