Change 3.0L Engine
- Remove the engine room under cover front (Refer to
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
).WARNING: Hot steam may escape when the radiator cap is opened. Open with caution. Place rag over the cap and twist it anti-clockwise slightly to release the pressure. Wait until the hot steam is released, and then remove the cap by turning it anti-clockwise gradually.
- Drain the water from the radiator, heater core and engine after unplugging the radiator drain plug and removing the radiator cap.
- Drain the coolant after unplugging the radiator condenser tank.
- After draining the coolant, clean the path of the coolant by injecting water into the radiator from the radiator cap area.
- Securely tighten the drain plug of the radiator.
- Assemble the radiator condenser tank.
- Using the LLC changer (special tool MB991871), refill the engine coolant up to the top of the radiator port.
Recommended antifreeze: MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM or equivalent*
NOTE: *similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrate and non-borate coolant with long life hybrid organic acid technology.Quantity: 9.0 dm 3 (9.51 quarts)

- Tighten the radiator cap securely.
- Remove the radiator condenser tank cap, and add the engine coolant up to the "FULL" line of the level gauge.
- Turn OFF the air conditioning switch, start the engine to warm it up until the cooling fan works.NOTE: This is necessary to open the thermostat fully.
- Rev the engine several times and then stop it. Check that there are no coolant leaks.
- Remove the radiator cap with the engine cool, and then refill the engine coolant up to the top of the radiator port.
- Tighten the radiator cap securely.
- Remove the radiator condenser tank cap, and add the engine coolant up to the "FULL" line of the level gauge.
- Install the engine room under cover front (Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
