ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR DTCS P2096, P2097, OR P0133

ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR DTCS P2096, P2097, OR P0133

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): TSB-11-13-001, Date of Issue:  January, 2011
MITSUBISHI: 2010 Lancer, Lancer Sportback
CATEGORY: 13 - Fuel

PURPOSE

Some affected vehicles may exhibit MIL illumination with DTC P2096, P2097, or P0133 stored in the ECM due to incorrect ECM software parameters.

This TSB provides instructions to reprogram the ECM with new parameters to correct the condition. The O2 sensor may not be defective and should not be replaced unless the symptoms return after reprogramming is completed, the vehicle is test driven, and further DTC diagnosis is performed.

IMPORTANT: If an affected vehicle has a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated, and DTCs stored in the ECM other than those described in this TSB  , diagnose and repair those DTCs per the service manual before  reprogramming. DO NOT  reprogram the ECM until the reason for any other DTCs being set is corrected.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Record all freeze frame data on the repair order.
  2. Check the underside of the hood to verify there is no "Authorized Modification" label previously installed to indicate this reprogramming has already been completed. If a label is present and the "ROM ID #" on the label matches the "New S/W Part No." in the ECM Reprogramming Chart earlier in this bulletin, the ECM is at the latest level and reprogramming is not necessary.

For MEDIC II users only: (MUT-III users go to step  5)

  3. Verify the MEDIC-II is at version 5.6 and at download M409  or higher.

If your MEDIC-II download is at least M409  , continue with the Reprogramming Procedure.

If your MEDIC-II download is below M409  , update your MEDIC-II as follows.

    G07246962

    1. From the MUT-III Main Page, confirm your MUT-III version is Ver 24.0.
      G07246965
      • If the version displayed on your MUT-III Main Page is lower than version 24, locate the MUT-III Scan Tool Viewer CD (ver 24.0) and follow the instructions on the CD label to update your MUT-III.
