Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes
NOTE:
Following procedure requires functions available on manufacturer's MUT-II scan tool (MB991502). Generic scan tools may not have capability to carry out all tests.
NOTE:
DO NOT skip any steps in self-diagnostic tests or incorrect diagnosis may result. Ensure self-diagnostic test applies to vehicle being tested.
- Refer to scan tool manufacturer's manual for instructions. Before retrieving diagnostic trouble codes, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS under TESTING PROCEDURE. Locate OBD-II Data Link Connector (OBD-II DLC) under instrument panel, near steering column. See Figure.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Read and record scan tool self-diagnostic output. Proceed to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool will not communicate with PCM, diagnose communication concern. See SCAN TOOL WILL NOT COMMUNICATE under TESTING PROCEDURE. Turn ignition off before disconnecting scan tool.
