Test Procedure
- Check for presence of another key near the key being used in ignition switch. If another key is not present nearby, go to next step. If another key is present nearby, move the key well away from ignition and try to start vehicle. Recheck for DTCs. If DTC 11 does not reset, problem was proximity of other key to ignition. If DTC 11 resets, diagnose DTC and repair as necessary.
- Try to start vehicle with spare registered ignition key. If vehicle does not start, go to next step. If vehicle starts, replace ignition key that does not work. Register new ignition key with password and encrypted code. See PROGRAMMING .
- Recheck for DTCs. If DTC 11 is output, go to next step. If DTC 12 is output, go to DTC 12: ENCRYPTED CODES ARE MISMATCHED OR NOT REGISTERED
.NOTE: Key ring antenna shares electrical connector with key reminder switch.
- Disconnect key reminder switch 7-pin connector. Measure resistance between key reminder switch connector terminals No. 3 (White/Blue wire) and No. 7 (White/Red wire). See Fig 1 . Resistance should be less than 2 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace ignition key ring antenna.
- Check immobilizer-ECU and key reminder switch connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair connector as necessary. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Check for open or short in White/Blue wire between key reminder switch connector terminal No. 3 and immobilizer-ECU connector terminal No. 10. Check for open or short in White/Red wire between key reminder switch connector terminal No. 7 and immobilizer-ECU connector terminal No. 11. If problem exists, repair appropriate wire as necessary. If problem does not exist, replace immobilizer-ECU. Register password and encrypted code. See PROGRAMMING .
