Test N-1: Anti-Theft Alarm System Does Not Arm

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and check operation of following functions:
    • Ignition key reminder tone alarm.
    • Light reminder tone alarm.
    • Central door locking system.
    • Hazard warning light.
    • Dome light dimming function.
If none of listed functions operate normally, check ETACS-ECU battery circuit. See P-1: ETACS-ECU POWER SUPPLY CHECK  under CIRCUIT TESTS. If any of listed functions operate normally, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect ETACS-ECU 20-pin connector C-112. Connect jumper wire between ground and ETACS-ECU connector C-112 terminal No. 39 (White/Red wire). See Figure . If security indicator light illuminates, go to step  8 . If security indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Remove combination meter (instrument cluster). Check security indicator light bulb. If bulb is okay, go to next step. If bulb is blown, replace bulb and retest alarm system.
  4. Measure resistance between security indicator bulb terminals. Install security indicator bulb in combination meter. Measure resistance between combination meter connector C-42 terminals No. 30 and 31 (component side). See Figure . If resistance between combination connector C-42 terminals is about same as security indicator bulb resistance, go to next step. If resistance between combination connector C-42 terminals is not about same as security indicator bulb resistance, replace printed circuit board and retest alarm system.
  5. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-112 and combination meter connector C-42 for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair connector(s) as necessary and retest alarm system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  6. Check for open in White/Red wire between ETACS-ECU connector C-112 terminal No. 39 and combination meter connector C-42 terminal No. 30. See Figure and Figure . If problem exists, repair White/Red wire as necessary and retest alarm system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  7. Check for open or short in Orange/Black wire between combination meter connector C-42 terminal No. 31 and engine compartment relay box. Repair Orange/Black wire as necessary and retest alarm system.
  8. Check input signals for:
    • Ignition key reminder switch.
    • Driver's and passenger's door switch.
    • Driver's and passenger's door lock key cylinder switch.
    • Driver's and passenger's door lock actuator switch.
    • Hood switch.
    • Liftgate latch switch.
    • Liftgate lock key cylinder switch.
    • Transmitter.
See appropriate tests in INPUT SIGNAL CHECK FUNCTION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If input signal test shows a fault, check indicated circuit. See TEST O-3: KEY REMINDER SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  , TEST O-10: DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S DOOR SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  , TEST O-11: DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S DOOR LOCK KEY CYLINDER SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  , TEST O-12: DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  , TEST O-14: HOOD SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  , TEST O-15: LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  , TEST O-16: LIFTGATE LOCK KEY CYLINDER SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  or TEST O-21: TRANSMITTER OR ETACS-ECU RECEIVER CHECK  . If input signal test is okay, replace ETACS-ECU and retest alarm system.
