Diagnostic Procedure
NOTE:
If engine is too hot for following test, disconnect ECT sensor connector and connect to 2.1-6.5 k/ohms resistor, or ECT sensor that is 68°F (20°C) or less.
- Ensure engine coolant temperature is less than 68°F (20°C). Using a stethoscope, listen for operating sound of Idle Air Control (IAC) motor when ignition is turned on (engine off). If operating sound can be heard, go to next step. If no operating sound can be heard, go to step 3 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAC motor 6-pin connector. Check resistance between IAC motor connector (component side) terminal No. 2 and either terminal No. 1 or 3 (component side). Also, check resistance between IAC motor connector terminal No. 5 and either terminal No. 6 or 4 (component side). Resistances should be 28-33 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If any resistance is not as specified, replace IAC motor. If all resistances are as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and IAC motor connector terminals No. 2 and 5. If battery voltage exists at each terminal, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at both terminals, repair connectors and/or wiring between MFI relay and IAC motor.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 35-pin connector B-108. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and PCM connector B-108 terminals No. 14, 15, 28 and 29. If battery voltage exists at each terminal, check PCM connector. If connector is okay, replace PCM. If battery voltage does not exist at a terminal, check IAC motor connector, and wiring between PCM and IAC motor.
