Retrieving DTCS: Voltmeter

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect analog voltmeter between Data Link Connector (DLC) diagnostic terminal and ground terminal. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on.
  2. Stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will be indicated by sweeps of voltmeter needle. Long sweeps indicate first digit of DTC; short sweeps indicate second digit. If more than one fault is present, lowest number DTC will be given first. After DTCs have been retrieved, test indicated component and/or related circuit (if necessary). See RWAL DTC DEFINITIONS  table and appropriate DTC TEST under CIRCUIT TESTS  for servicing procedure.
