VTSS Test 3A - Fused Ignition Switch Output Circuit To BCM

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Stratus and 1995 Chrysler Cirrus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform VTSS TEST 2A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Remove and inspect fuse No. 11 (10-amp), located in junction block. See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. If fuse is okay, go to step 5).
  2. If fuse is open, turn ignition off and go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance at cavity No. 19 (Red/Violet wire) for fuse No. 11. See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 11.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove BCM from junction block and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. See Figure and Figure in CHIME TESTS 2A and 3A. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance at cavity No. 19 (Red/Violet wire) for fuse No. 11. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair ignition switch side of fuse No. 11 and replace fuse. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace BCM and fuse No. 11.
  5. If fuse No. 11 is okay, turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage at cavity No. 20 (Dark Green/Red wire) for fuse No. 11. See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, reinstall fuse No. 11 and go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Green/Red wire between junction block and ignition switch.
  6. Turn ignition off. Remove BCM from junction block and ensure connectors are clean and not damaged. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on BCM 12-pin connector terminal No. 6. See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace junction block. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace BCM.
