Section 14 (Anti-Lock Brake System): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Mitsubishi Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brake system is designed to control braking force of rear wheels. This serves to eliminate wheel lock and maintain directional stability during hard brake application. System consists of a wheel speed sensor (mounted in rear differential), modulator valve, "G"-force sensor, RWAL control unit, ANTI-LOCK warning light and connecting wiring harness.

Constant power is supplied to terminal No. 1 of the RWAL control unit through fuse No. 1. Ignition power is supplied to control unit through fuse No. 20 when ignition switch is in the ON position. Ignition power is supplied to the ANTI-LOCK warning light through fuse No. 7 when ignition switch is in the ON position.

System also has a self-diagnostic function, which enables technician to quickly trouble shoot system by monitoring stored RWAL trouble codes. See RETRIEVING CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see DISC & DRUM article in BRAKES section.
