Code 41 & 42: Modulator Valve
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Mitsubishi Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect modulator valve harness connector. Check resistance of hold valve solenoid winding between terminals No. 3 and 4 of modulator valve. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 5 ohms.
- Check resistance of release valve solenoid winding between modulator valve terminals No. 1 and 2. Resistance should be 4.3 ohms. If resistance values are not within specification, replace modulator valve as an assembly.
- Check continuity between modulator valve and ECU. Disconnect ECU harness connector. Connect jumper wire between modulator valve terminal No. 2 (White/Green wire) and vehicle ground. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between ECU harness connector terminal No. 4 and vehicle ground.
- Move jumper wire to between modulator valve terminal No. 4 (White/Blue wire) and vehicle ground. Check continuity between ECU harness connector terminal No. 3 and vehicle ground. See Figure . If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair circuits as needed.
- Using ohmmeter, check continuity between modulator valve harness connector terminals No. 1 and 3 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair circuits as needed. If after all tests have been completed system still does not function properly, substitute ECU with known good unit and retest system.
