Automatic Transmission Using Voltmeter

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Connect analog voltmeter negative lead to Data Link Connector (DLC) ground terminal and positive lead to terminal No. 6. See Figure .
  2. If trouble codes are stored in TCL module memory, voltmeter needle will begin to pulse. Long pulses represent tens; short pulses represent ones. For example, 4 long pulses and 3 short pulses indicate Code 43. If 2 or more codes are stored, lowest number will be displayed first.
  3. After recording trouble code(s), perform necessary testing. See the TRANSMISSION SERVICING article. If no codes are stored, voltmeter needle will pulse constantly.
