Output Signal Chart-Step 1

  1. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Remove large and small harness connectors from ECU. On Galant, ECU is located behind cowl side trim on passenger side. Heater blower assembly bracket must be removed. On Van/Wagon, ECU is located behind driver's side seat belt retractor.
  2. Turn ignition switch to "LOCK" position. On ECI Checker (MD998406), set check switch to "OFF" position and select switch to "A" position.
  3. Connect White connectors (labeled "CHECKER") of Harness Connector (MD998437 ) to ECI checker, and then connect harness connector to ECU and harness connectors. See Fig 1 .

  4. Perform checks according to appropriate MPI SYSTEM OUTPUT SIGNAL CHART-STEP 1 under OUTPUT SIGNAL CHARTS  . If checker shows any deviation from specifications, check sensor and related electrical wiring. Repair or replace if necessary.
  5. After repair or replacement, recheck with ECI checker to confirm repair has removed problem.
