Component Testing: Speedometer

  1. Adjust tire pressure to specified amount. Using speedometer, confirm that indications of gauge are correct within allowable error limits. Allowable error margin is (+ or -) 1.5 mph up to 75 mph for Cordia, Galant and Tredia models.
  2. On Starion models, the allowable error margin is (+ or -) 2.5 mph up to 75 mph. If amount of error margin is exceeded, check output of voltage variation between terminals of speed sensor. SeeFig 1 .
  3. Disconnect speedometer cable. Turn speedometer cable connection of combination meter by hand. Measure voltage between terminals No. 1 and No. 3 on back of speedometer. Voltmeter should read between 4.7-5.3 volts. SeeFig 1 .
  4. Measure variation in voltage between terminals No. 2 and No. 3. Variation should be 0.5-5.0 volts. SeeFig 1 .
