Assembly (Starion)
- Apply grease to inside of steering shaft bearing. Insert shaft into bearing. Apply adhesive to bearing outer contact surface. Apply grease to inside of upper bearing. Install steering shaft into column tube.
- Install flanged bearing (with flange facing up) onto steering shaft lower end. After aligning flange bearing hole with hole in shaft lower end, insert joint pin. Fill socket with grease.
- Insert seat, spring, and spring seat into socket. Insert steering shaft lower end into socket. With the shaft upright, apply light downward pressure and insert joint pins by hand. Attach joint pin collar and retaining rings. Install joint cover.
- Insert tilt lever screw into tilt lever until dimension A" is .9-1.2 in. (23-26 mm) See Fig 1

- Mount tilt bracket onto column tube. Insert tilt bolt. Tilt lever must be locked between vertical position and 65° forward of vertical, and unlocked between vertical position and 45° behind of vertical. See Fig 2

- Attach block to tilt bolt and install washer. Tighten tilt nut. Check for proper lever operation and ensure column is locked when lever is in proper position. See Fig 2
. Weld nut and tilt bolt together.
- Attach column support to tube and tighten support shear bolts until bolt heads twist off. Install joint cover to column, making sure clamp bolt faces up. Tighten clamp bolt.
