Fuel Injection Mixer
The fuel injection mixer consists of fuel injectors and a throttle valve to control air/fuel mixture flow. The mixer contains ports to generate vacuum signals for emission control systems.
Fuel is supplied to injectors by fuel supply system. From injectors fuel flows to externally mounted fuel pressure regulator. The fuel injectors are solenoid-operated devices controlled by the ECU. The injectors are alternately activated by ECU.
The ECU activates fuel injector solenoids which lift a normally closed valve off its seat. Fuel under pressure is injected in a conical spray pattern into fuel injection mixer chamber, above throttle valve. See Fig 1 .
Turbocharged air flowing into chamber is saturated with fuel charge before passing throttle valve. The amount of fuel delivered by injectors is dependent upon the time that injector valve is held open by ECU. Fuel delivery time is modified by ECU to provide proper amount of fuel for all engine operating conditions.
