Vacuum Pump
An auxiliary vacuum pump is used on diesel engines. This pump is driven off the alternator and supplies vacuum to run the power brake booster. To test vacuum pump on alternator, use a photoelectric tachometer and reflective tape. Connect a vacuum gauge to the hose between the vacuum pump and the brake booster. Run vacuum pump at specified RPM to obtain vacuum readings.
