Removing and installing alternator bracket (B36 engine) (Cooper base)
Special tools required:
- 11 4 470
- 2 408 958
- 170100
Preliminary work needed:
- Drain COOLANT .
- Remove ALTERNATOR .
- Detach AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR for air conditioning and place to one side (extraction of the air conditioning system is not necessary).
Removal:
Unlock and detach coolant hose (1).
Release clamp (2) and detach coolant hose (3).
Unscrew the screws (1).
Remove alternator support (2).
Installation:
Clean sealing surface (1) with special tool 11 4 470.
Check centering connectors (2 and 3) for damage, replace if necessary.
Replacement:
Remounting the coolant pump.
Installation note:
If the sealing bead (1) protrudes slightly and if the sealing bead (1) is not damaged, the alternator support can be reinstalled.
If damaged: remove sealing bead (1) using suitable tool.
Replacing the sealing bead (1) SEALANT 2.2 (Loctite 5970).
Sealant height approximately 2 to 2.5 mm.
Mount alternator support (2).
Tighten down screws (1).
Tightening torque 11 51 3AZ .
Check internal tightness of the coolant thermostat:
Mount special tool 2 408 958 on the coolant thermostat.
Connect special tool 17 0 100/102 to special tool 2 408 958.
Using special tool (hand pump) 17 0 100/101, build up pressure to 0.5 bar .
The pressure may fall to 0.1 bar .
It is internally tight, when the pressure of 0.1 bar is maintained.
If no pressure can be built up, then the coolant thermostat is leaking internally.
The coolant thermostat must be removed again and reinstalled.
Then repeat the operation.
Remove all special tools.
Mount coolant hose (1) (must audibly engage).
Mount coolant hose (3).
Required follow-up work:
- Mount AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR for air conditioning.
- Install ALTERNATOR .
- Top up COOLANT .
