Brake Pedal Travel Sensor: Notes

The brake pedal travel is detected by measuring the angle at the brake pedal.

The brake pedal travel sensor is a non-contact tool for recording the travel path of the brake pedal.

When the brake pedal is operated, there is an initial response zone that has to be passed through. No hydraulic brake intervention takes place while the pedal is in this zone. However, the response zone is evaluated for regenerative braking. During regenerative braking, the electrical machine of the hybrid drive operates as an alternator and in doing so provides an electrical engine braking effect. The high-voltage battery is charged at the same time through the charging mode (alternator). This type of brake energy regeneration is called energy recovery or regenerative braking.

If the brake pedal continues to pass right through the response zone, hydraulic braking is triggered alongside the regenerative braking.
